Bossier City Council meeting: Tuesday, July 2, 2024
Editor’s note: A previous article by BossierNow reported that the Bossier City Council would be considering at its Tuesday meeting a resolution regarding improvements to the old Jimmie Davis Bridge for its conversion to a “linear park.” That was incorrect.
The Louisiana Department of Transportation and Development agreement attached to the resolution was for roadway lighting, sidewalks and pedestrian facilities for the connecting interchanges from Arthur Ray Teague Parkway, Sunflower Boulevard, Brookshire Arena Drive, Zach Avenue & Reeves Marine Drive to the new JDB.
While a linear park to replace the old span is planned and was mentioned in the agreement, it was not part of the current DOTD infrastructure participation agreement presented to the council on Tuesday.
We regret the error.
Hard liquor sales on Sundays approved
Soon, residents won't have to cross the bridge into Shreveport to get a full assortment of liquor. High-alcoholic content liquor sales on Sundays in Bossier City were approved at Tuesday's meeting of the city council. District 5’s councilmember Vince Maggio cast the lone dissenting vote.
In other business before the council:
Councilmember David Montgomery, Jr. moved to delay a zoning decision at 2654 Old Minden Road until the council's next meeting. The Metropolitan Planning Commission previously approved the zoning change from Residential Low Density to Business, Commercial Office for a proposed office/neighborhood business.
The house on the property would remain but would be converted into a business with seven parking spaces. No reason was given for Montgomery's request for a delay.
The council also introduced an ordinance allowing the Louisiana Department of Children and Family Services to shelter residents at the Brookshire Grocery Arena. In the event of an emergency, residents from Cameron, Calcasieu, and Jefferson parishes would be transported to the arena. DCFS would pay rent and cover all expenses related to the use of the facility.
The council will also cast a final vote at its next meeting to allocate $100,000 for vehicle repair and maintenance for the Bossier City Fire Department.

Bossier City fireworks laws for the 4th of July: Hours and dates fireworks can be set off
Neighborhoods throughout the city and parish are already ringing out with fireworks celebrations for the Independence Day holiday.
The fireworks law in Bossier City states that fireworks can be discharged from June 28th through July 5th, but not before 10:00 a.m. or later than 10:00 p.m.
Parish residents may need a little more patience. Bossier Parish does not have a law restricting fireworks. Last December, the Bossier Parish Police Jury decided not to pass a fireworks ordinance. Jurors thought the Bossier City law was "confusing" and "hard to enforce."
