Haughton residents: Be aware of utility scam now circulating
Residents of Haughton should be aware of an email that is making the rounds.
The email, purporting to be from the Haughton Department of Property Utilities, says that unpaid charges are associated with your account. This is scam.
Here is what the email looks like:
If you live within the municipal limits of Haughton or are supplied by Haughton Municipal Utilities, the department will not email you regarding this type of issue.

The Bossier City '25 Vote: Craton Cochran won't "knock down the mall and build a Buc-ees"
Craton Cochran is campaigning for one of the two City Council at-large seats.
Just seated as president of the Bossier Parish School board, Cochran describes himself as a conservative Christian Republican, husband and father of three and lifelong resident of Bossier City. His priorities include promoting economic development, strengthening public safety, and advocating for transparency.
He recently spoke at the South Bossier Lunch Group and presented his ideas for the future of Bossier City.
"I'm not one of those candidates that's going to get in here and give you a big grandioso scheme of, hey, we're going to get in there and tear down the boardwalk. We're going to make Six Flags over Bossier City right down there," Cochran said. "We're going to knock down the mall. We're going to build a Buc-ees. I know we would all like that. That may be fun, but I'm a basics guy. I got a shovel in the back of my pickup truck."

What is a Bossier City 'councilmember at large,’ and what do they do?
Three people are running for two at-large seats on the Bossier City Council: Craton Cochran, Lee A. "Gunny" Jeter, Sr., and the currently-serving Chris Smith.
David Montgomery, also currently an at-large council member, decided not to seek reelection.
What is an at-large council member? And what do they do?
As a citizen of Bossier City, you are represented by three council members on the City Council — your district council member and two at-large members.
Here are the currently seated district council members:
District 1- Brian Hammons (reelected without opposition)
District 2 - Jeffery Darby (running for reelection)
District 3 - Don Williams (chose not to run for reelection)
District 4 - Jeff Free (chose not to run for reelection)
District 5 - Vince Maggio (running for reelection)

Now, your district member represents the area where you live, while the at-large council members represent the entire city.
So, in effect, you have three council members representing you.
As council members, they consider local laws and resolutions to adopt, approve and allocate City budgets for water, sewer and other infrastructure projects; set City utility and property tax rates; give final approval to zoning changes; appoint citizens to public boards, among other duties.
In other words, they decide how your tax dollars are spent.
