With 'no wrongdoing alleged,' Bossier City Council to launch sweeping financial audit
At tomorrow's meeting, the Bossier City Council is set to give final approval to a comprehensive, 12-year audit of City finances.
The Tax Reduction Audit, sponsored by councilmembers Chris Smith and Brian Hammons, says that while there is "no specific allegation of wrongdoing," the audit aims to identify efficiency and cost savings.
The ordinance states that "Bossier City taxpayers deserve assurance that their tax dollars are being managed efficiently, responsibly, and lawfully" and "periodic, transparent financial reviews help identify waste, inefficiencies, non-compliance, and opportunities for tax relief or reinvestment."
The independent audit of Bossier City government will review the 12 most recent fiscal years, evaluating:
City funds, restricted accounts, investments, reserves, and debt service
Bonded debt, liabilities, long-term obligations, and debt schedules
Capital projects, contracts, infrastructure, and city-owned property
Financial policies, internal controls, reporting standards, and management practices
Compliance with Louisiana law concerning public funds, debt, procurement, and fiscal administration
Auditors will conduct interviews with city officials, department heads, and finance personnel on policies, procedures, and operations. When completed, the audit firm will present the findings and recommendations at a public Council meeting, and the full report will be made available to the public.
'After Hours' networking event Thursday
The Bossier Chamber will host its After Hours networking event Thursday at Live! Casino & Hotel's PBR Cowboy Bar from 5 - 7 pm.
The gathering brings together Bossier business professionals for "an opportunity to connect and grow your business."
"This two-hour evening networking event offers you the chance to meet other business representatives to gain a better understanding of how you may partner and collaborate with one another," the Chamber says.
You can register online or pay at the door: $5 for members and $10 for future members. There will be entertainment, food, door prizes — and most importantly, networking.
Candidates set for District 1 Bossier Parish Police Jury election
Candidate qualifying has ended for the District 1 Police Jury election scheduled for October 11. The race is filling the seat of Bob Brotherton, who died in January. Kim Gaspard was temporarily appointed to the seat until the election.
Lynn C. Beaty of Haughton and Brent Moreland of Elm Grove made their campaigns official.
On his Facebook campaign page, Beaty describes himself as "Christian, conservative, Republican."
"I have lived and worked in Bossier Parish my entire life and have many friends and family here," Beaty says in a post. "After graduating from Louisiana Tech in 1975, I started a logging and construction business. Since then, we have completed hundreds of road, utility and drainage projects. This gives me a real world, hands-on insight into all of the projects the Police Jury builds and regulates. I strongly believe in the 2nd Amendment, less taxes and eliminating wasteful spending."
Moreland's social media says he is an International Representative at IBEW. Moreland qualified as a Republican.

Lane closure: Miller’s Bluff bridge over Red River on Highway 2
The Louisiana Department of Transportation and Development says that on Wednesday, July 16, 2025, the Highway 2 Miller’s Bluff bridge over the Red River in Bossier Parish will be reduced to one lane.
This lane closure is scheduled to take place from approximately 8:00 am to 3:00 pm, and is necessary for a routine bridge inspection.
This bridge is located approximately 3.3 miles east of US 71.
Restrictions/Permits: This lane closure will allow vehicles 10 feet wide or smaller to pass through the inspection zone. Larger vehicles must utilize an alternate route.
Alternate Route: I-49 to LA 1 to LA 3094 to I-20 to US 371
