12 to decide: Who will vote 'yes' for Bossier's biggest tax hike?
The 12 people shown above will vote on the biggest tax hike in Bossier tomorrow. Not Bossier Parish voters. Just the dozen members of the Bossier Parish School Board.
They alone will determine if the BPSB will "roll forward" property taxes. Here's how that works. Bossier Schools will vote on the $4.3 million tax increase at its meeting tomorrow at 6 p.m.
Who will vote for the tax hike? And who will stand up for voters still recovering from budget-busting inflation and vote no?
We will keep a tally and let you know.
Two local taxing authorities have already decided to raise taxes: Benton Fire District 4 Chief J.T. Wallace, Jr. and Bossier Parish Sheriff Julian Whittington.

NEW DETAILS: Truck theft suspect identified in Haughton high-speed chase, head-on collision and late-night manhunt
A suspect has been arrested following the theft of a truck, a high-speed chase ending in a crash and a late-night manhunt in Haughton.
The Bossier Parish Sheriff’s Office arrested Kaleb Janeczko, 27, of Shreveport, after he allegedly stole a truck in the 9000 block of Highway 71 in Elm Grove and then caused a head-on collision with another vehicle in Haughton.
BPSO says Janeczko stole the vehicle after it was left running while the owner went inside their residence in Elm Grove. An officer with the Haughton Police Department spotted the vehicle approximately 15 minutes later and attempted to stop it, but the vehicle accelerated away at a high speed.
A short time later, the stolen vehicle being driven by Janeczko struck another vehicle head-on in the 400 block of South Elm Street. Janeczko had fled the scene on foot when officers and deputies arrived and began to render aid to the crash victim in the other vehicle, who had to be extricated from the vehicle and flown to Ochsner’s LSU Medical Center with serious injuries.
The Bossier Parish Sheriff’s Office, Haughton Police Department, and Louisiana State Police joined in a combined effort to search the area with the assistance of K-9s and a drone but Janeczko was not located for several hours. A Haughton PD officer ultimately found Janeczko shortly after 10 pm and took him into custody.
Janeczko was turned over to Bossier Sheriff’s deputies, who transported and booked him into the Bossier Maximum-Security Facility on the following charges:
Aggravated Second Degree Battery
Theft of a Motor Vehicle
Hit and Run
Fugitive from Caddo Parish
Bond has not yet been set.

That 'virus' on your computer or phone may be a scam
A virus is on the loose in Bossier Parish. But it's virtual — and fake.
Detectives with the Bossier Parish Sheriff’s Office have reported a new scam in which a victim receives an email alleging that their computer and/or cell phone have been infected with a virus.
This virus supposedly grants the scammer access to all the information stored on the victim's devices. The scammer threatens to share any compromising information found on the devices with the victim's contacts and on social media. To regain control of their computer or phone, the victim is instructed to purchase a specific amount of Bitcoin and send it to a Bitcoin address provided by the scammer.
Authorities say it is important to be cautious when receiving unsolicited emails or messages requesting personal information or financial transactions.
If you feel you have fallen victim to this scam, please call the Bossier Sheriff’s Office at (318) 965-3418 or (318) 965-2203.
