A strange thing is happening with the Bossier City Council. (Parking in your yard, Part 2)
Plus — Parkway's 'next man up' mentality sparks big victory. Bossier Parish Fire District #1 has big plans.
Beyond Bossier
A lot of people are leaving Louisiana. Here's where they're going

A strange thing is happening with the Bossier City Council. Again and again and again. (Parking in your yard, Part 2)
The Bossier City Council is reliving the same day over and over again, in a time loop similar to the Bill Murray movie Groundhog Day.
It started with repeated term limits votes. Time and time again, a resolution to put local term limits before the voters was introduced to the city council. Each time, only two council members voted to move the measure forward: Chris Smith and Brian Hammons.
The term limits measure was introduced and voted down at least four times. Frankly, we stopped counting.
Nothing changed. The resolution failed each time with only two yes votes. Still, it kept being brought before the council for another vote after each defeat. Same issue. Same result.
Now it's happening again.
Parking in your yard, part two
At the last council meeting, District 1 councilmember Brian Hammons introduced an ordinance to ban vehicle parking in front and side yards of Bossier City residences.
There was no discussion, but the result of the vote was familiar: only two votes for and four against (District 4's Jeff Free was absent).
Yet, in typical Groundhog Day fashion, Hammons wants to relive the day and is bringing up the "don't park in your yard" ordinance for another vote at Tuesday's meeting. The same ordinance, the exact same wording — no changes.
What do they say about doing the same thing over and over again and expecting a different result?
Perhaps the other council members will have a change of heart. They suddenly see the error of their ways. Or maybe they all simply "pushed the wrong button" as Councilmember Vince Maggio is prone to do.
Or maybe the ordinance will fail with only two yes votes. Again.
Parkway's 'next man up' mentality sparks big victory
This is one for the books. In a battle of undefeateds, Parkway conquered Byrd last night in Thursday night high school football to remain unbeaten.
But the big story here is the "next man up" mentality that sparked the big victory.
Gavin Ferrington, who hasn't played football in a couple of years, joined the Panther football team as quarterback four days ago from the lacrosse squad. Down to a handful of available starters, Parkway rose to the mighty challenge and beat the (previously unbeaten) Yellow Jackets 46-35 in a crucial conference game.
C.J. Dudley rushed for 225 yards and scored four touchdowns.
Parkway takes on undefeated Airline next Friday.

Tiburon’s twice-yearly tradition
For 13 years, the Tiburon Subdivision has been home to one of North Bossier’s most highly anticipated community yard sales. Taking place twice a year, Tiburon’s sale includes both subdivisions within the neighborhood, making it a sought-after shopping destination for locals and visitors alike.
This fall’s sale will take place from 7 a.m. to noon on Saturday, October 5th. Shoppers are encouraged to plan their visit in advance, with digital maps of participating homes available for free online here. Whether you're in search of gently used home goods, children's toys, or those elusive one-of-a-kind items, Tiburon promises a vibrant and varied marketplace.

Jimmie Davis Bridge: One-night lane closure
The Louisiana Department of Transportation and Development says that on the night of Thursday, October 10, 2024, the westbound lane of the LA 511 (Jimmie Davis Bridge) over the Red River in Bossier & Caddo Parishes will be closed.
This lane closure is scheduled to take place from approximately 9:00 p.m. to 5:00 a.m. for one night, and is necessary to allow the contractor for the Jimmie Davis Bridge project to mobilize equipment in order to pour concrete for the test shaft for the new bridge.
The bridge will remain open to traffic, with vehicles allowed through via the use of flagging operations.
