Bitterly cold but little chance for snow in Bossier City today and tomorrow
The Barksdale Bubble is in full effect.
The National Weather Service says the bulk of the possible accumulating snowfall will remain mostly south of Bossier City. The latest forecast models show somewhere between 1-3" of snow along and south of a line from Angelina County, Texas east through La Salle Parish.
The weather agency says snow accumulation is becoming less likely north of the I-20 corridor due to a drier airmass and the southerly track of the Gulf low.
Could the I-20 corridor see some flurries? Yes, but the probability of accumulating snow is falling.
Very cold wind chills as low as 10 to 15 degrees are expected across portions of the I-20 corridor and south.
Wind chill values can lead to hypothermia with prolonged exposure. Exercise caution when traveling outside. Wear appropriate clothing and keep pets indoors as much as possible. Check on elderly family, friends, and neighbors frequently. Ensure portable heaters are used correctly. Do not use generators or grills inside.
Bossier Parish Schools are closed today for the Martin Luther King, Jr. holiday but hadn't announced plans for Tuesday at the time of publication.
Bossier Parish Community College is closed Monday and Tuesday. Virtual classes will still meet, and student services will still be available virtually.
Bossier Parish School Board welcomes new leadership
At Thursday's meeting, the Bossier Parish School Board welcomed Craton Cochran, the new president, and Eric Newman, the vice president, as Robert Bertrand stepped down as president.
"I want to thank Mr. Bertrand for just an incredible year, a ton of support. He handled this position with a ton of grace, a ton of integrity," Superintendent Jason Rowland said. "His support and the board's support has been instrumental to the progress the district has made over 2024 and into this year."
"My intent is to lead this group in 2025 in our pursuits of excellence and education, continue the deep traditions that have been set before us, and navigate us into a bright and healthy future," Cochran said.
In other school board business, Rebecca Harvey was welcomed as the new assistant principal at Central Park Elementary. Harvey is a former Central Park student who graduated from Bossier High School and holds a master's degree in teaching and educational leadership from Louisiana Tech.
Plain Dealing High was also named a Purple Star school. The Purple Star School program helps schools meet the educational and social/emotional challenges of military-connected children during their transition to a new school.
Bossier Parish bridge closure
The road closure on LA 160 in north Bossier Parish will resume today, Monday, January 20, 2025. This will allow the contractor to begin removing and replacing these two bridges, which were originally built in 1969.
This work also includes constructing an access point for the crane and burning the vegetation that was cleared during the clearing and grubbing process in late 2024.
The project is expected to be completed in Spring 2026. Progress is dependent on weather conditions and other factors.
