Organization providing tiny houses for the homeless looking to expand to Bossier City

A tiny home community for the homeless is looking to expand into Bossier City.
A nonprofit, Settled-Inn Village, purchased a mobile home park in Shreveport in 2022. Now, Lois Mayberry, president of the organization, is looking at one acre of land at the corner of Airline Drive and Village Drive, where St. George's Episcopal Church is located.
"Nothing has been done with that one acre since 1950, when the church was first built," Mayberry told the Metropolitan Planning Commission Monday.
The plan is to put 10 tiny houses and a group house on the property.
"So, I'm hoping here today that you will listen and consider letting us make an application and begin the considerations of what the necessary codes and information would be for building this small property," Mayberry added.
"I just want to commend you on your effort to try to bring this to Bossier," MPC board member Art Schuldt said. "There's no doubt we have a tremendous need for affordable housing, and this is one of the solutions that many communities are looking at across the country. I think from our standpoint, we don't have anything to regulate it just yet, so I think that would be something that we should move forward with quickly to look at this, and maybe you could work with us on that."
Mayberry said some of the challenges such projects face are the cost of obtaining the property, the lack of regulations or building codes for tiny houses and the "not in my backyard" objections of neighbors.
Public records request seeks proof Bossier DA has investigated the Bossier City Council
A member of the Bossier Term Limits Coalition has filed a public records request with Bossier District Attorney Schuyler Marvin seeking details on an investigation into the Bossier City Council.
Tuesday, Marvin told Erin McCarty of KEEL radio that he had "already" investigated five members of the Bossier City Council for possible charges of malfeasance. Jeff Darby, Jeff Free, Vince Maggio, David Montgomery, and Don Williams repeatedly rejected a citizens' petition to put term limits on the ballot.
McCarty asked Marvin if he was investigating the five council members.
"Already have, already have," Marvin replied.
"Are you going to prosecute them?" McCarty pressed.
"I haven't made a conclusion yet," he responded.
Wes Merriott of Sobo.live filed the records request Wednesday, asking the DA's office to provide "copies of all documents, reports, dossiers, interviews, depositions, and other similar files generated or handled in reference to the above investigation concerning the Bossier City City Council's alleged mishandling of two certified petitions to amend the Bossier City Charter."
In addition, the request seeks files related to:
Any criminal conspiracy to impede the Bossier City Charter Review Commission by influencing members to absent themselves until the resignation of the Commission Chair.
Copies of any internal emails between employees of the District Attorney concerning any possible conflict of interest between the Bossier City City Council, The Bossier Parish DA's office, and Bossier City Assistant City Attorney and Bossier Parish ADA Richard Ray.
Copies of any internal emails between employees of the District Attorney concerning any possible conflict of interest between the Bossier City City Councilman David A. Montgomery Jr. and Bossier Parish ADA Dale Montgomery.
Copies of any email communication between the Attorney General's office (or any employee of same) and the Bossier Parish DA's office (or any employee).
