Inside Barksdale AFB: Global Strike Command expands capabilities with new STRIKEWERX Innovation Lab
The Air Force Global Strike Command (AFGSC) Office of the Chief Scientist has grown its ability to support the needs of Airmen with the new STRIKEWERX Innovation Lab.
Located within the STRIKEWERX Innovation Hub at the Cyber Innovation Center in Bossier City, Louisiana, the new space extends the hub’s footprint by nearly 2,000 square feet.
The Innovation Lab features new equipment and capabilities in the form of augmented reality and virtual reality (AR/VR) headsets, computers for modeling and simulation, three 3D printers, a handheld 3D scanner, a makerspace for prototyping, as well as a design space with teleconferencing capabilities.
“I am excited about the opening of the Innovation Lab, which will provide tools for our Airmen to quickly fabricate prototype solutions to the problems they encounter in their jobs,” said AFGSC Chief Scientist Dr. Donna Senft.
With this state-of-the-art space, Airmen have the capability to learn and experiment with the latest in AR/VR, work with the latest software development programs and develop rough prototypes of physical solutions. It also creates a designated place for demonstrations and presentations, allowing for greater connection with industry and academia partners.
“The CIC highly values its partnership with the command and is continually working to support their needs for innovation and modernization,” said Kevin Nolten, CIC president. “This new Innovation Lab allows Airmen to bring to life ideas for their projects and improve the outcomes of our STRIKEWERX Design Sprints.”
The new Innovation Lab is CIC’s latest effort to support AFGSC’s nuclear mission while contributing to our nation’s defense. To date, the 78 solutions CIC delivered to the Air Force, further enabling modernization efforts, have created an impact greater than $268 million.
Bossier Parish burn ban lifted
The Bossier Parish area has finally received enough rain for the burn ban to be lifted. Of course, caution and good judgment are always required when doing any outdoor burning.
Some neighboring parishes here in Louisiana and counties in Texas and Arkansas still have burn bans in effect, so when you are out of Bossier Parish, be sure to check local jurisdictions for prevailing fire safety requirements.
You can find information on burn bans at www.ldaf.la.gov/land/fire/safety
